Kris: Ok Inday, choose a briefcase.
Inday: Kris, I would opt for case #4 please.
Kris: Briefcase # 4… si Sharmel. Inday, matanong ko lang, how did you come up with the number 4?
Inday: Oh, do you really want to know Kris?
Kris: Oo naman. I’m sure kaya ko naman maintindihan yung sasabihin mo eh.
Inday: The number 4 was acquired based on a probability distribution function that involves integrating up to an area greater than or equal to that random number which should be generated between 0 and 1 for proper distributions.
Kris: Syet. tanong tanong pa kasi eh.
Kris: Ok Inday, choose 6 briefcases to open.
Inday: I would opt for 7, 24, 12, 2, 15 and 20.
Inday: Why is that? As if I can change the outcome if we’re to open a case each time I blurt out a number as opposed to opening each case immediately one after the other right?
Inday: Kris, I guess that’s not the way I was taught in grade school. You see, I was taught that we should only use the comparative form of the word or add “ER” to the adjective if we are comparing two things. And since it is only the first briefcase that we are going to open, we have nothing to compare it to. Am I right?
[natahimik ang audience at napaisip]
Kris: Oo nga no!
Kris: Sige Natalie, Buksan mo na.
[Ang laman ng briefcase 7 ay Piso… Palakpakan ang mga tao]
Kris: Good start! Ano yung next case mo ulit?
Inday: Case number 24 please.
Kris: Chloe… buksan na…
[Audience sumisigaw ulit ng LOWER!! LOWER!!]
Inday: Oh my goodness Kris, how long have you been doing this? Have you ever encountered a value that is lower than a peso in this game? Tell me, is there any value left lower than the one we just opened? Sheesh.
[Napaisip ulit ang audience at natahimik]
Kris: Aarrgghh!!!!
Inday: Ahh Kris, to save more time can you tell Banker that I’m not interested in his first offer. In the history of this game of chance, I have yet to see someone accept a first offer from the banker. It’s quite pathetic and pretentious for contestants to pause and look around the audience as if asking for advice before ultimately rejecting the first offer. I mean come on, isn’t that a waste of airtime?
Banker: Potahhh!!!
Ano name nya?
Inday: Ahh, that’s my master Mr. Montemayor.
Kris: Ahhh sya pala yun, how cute naman pala eh. Sige sir, give us a number.
Mr. Montemayor: Hi Kris, good evening. I’m a fan. I choose number 22 please.
Kris: Ano Inday ok ba yung number 22?
Inday: Whatever, we shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds us anyway. Go ahead.
Kris: [taray naman] Sofie, buksan na!
[ang laman ng briefcase 22 ay 5,000]
Kris: Good job! What’s his name?
Inday: Ahh, that’s my on again off again boyfriend, Dodong the gardener.
Kris: Ooohh, sya pala yun. Ok Dodong, give us a number!
Dodong: Hi babes, I choose briefcase 9 if it’s ok with you. If not, it’s ok with me as long as it’s ok with you.
Kris: Ano raw? Inday, number 9 daw ok say0?
Inday: Yes Kris, it’s fine with me.
Inday: YOU!!! How dare you invade my moment!
Nagkatitigan sina Inday at Ederlyn.
Inday: What? Can you speak up? What are you mumbling up there. Can somebody give her a microphone please?
Kris: Ano ba!!
Nanghinayang ang mga audience… Ang mga natirang values ay 250, 1K, 20K, 50K, and 500K.
Inday: NooOoo…. (sabay tingin kay Dodong at napapaluha), how could you…
Dodong: I’m so sorry Inday, please forgive me.
Kris: Hayyy, drama again.
Kris: Inday, are you okay? Is it a Deal or No Deal?
Kris: Wait lang, kung mapapansin ninyo we have only have 5 cases left, and among those 5, apat doon ay mas maliit na value…
Inday: Kris, do you mind? Can I do my own thinking?
Kris: Taray to the max! (pabulong sa sarili)
Inday: Ok, I’m ready. Upon looking at the reality of the situation, 80% of the cases left have at least 49K less than the banker’s offer. The only way I can do better than what is offered is that if my case contains the 500k or I’d get to open one of the four lower values. But I have to keep in mind that there’s only 20% probability that this would happen. I have to take note, however, that the banker’s offer is roughly around 15% lower than the offer I expected based on the arithmetic mean of the values left.
Kris: Lorddd… panaginip ba ‘to? Ayokonaaa….
Inday: Accepting a deal for less than the mean should generally be regarded as a weak decision so I would say, NO DEAL!
Sige Inday, go ahead and choose 1 briefcase!
Inday: Ok Kris, I choose briefcase #5 please?
Kris: Briefcase #5! Mimi bago mo buksan yan I would first like to thank Figliarina by Schubizz for my sandals, Bambi Fuentes for my hair and make-up and Pepsi Herrera for my gown tonight.
Kris: Ok Mimi, buk…
Inday: Ahh Kris, can I also take time to thank a few people? I mean, I did save us a few minutes of airtime right?
Inday: Thanks! Yes, I would like to thank Frank Provost for my hair and make-up, Jimmy Choo for my sandals and my dear friend Oscar dela Renta for my gown tonight.
BLAG!!
Inday: Oh, and thanks to the people of Cartier for sending me these nice earrings for tonight!

The Beyonce Experience!
Disclaimer: Before anything else, I would like to apologize for the crappy quality of these photos. I was not able to bring my SLR camera in. I had to settle for my camphone. Huhuhu. Hopefully, I will be able to post better photos later.
OK!
Early Wednesday morning, my special ticket source texts me to say that she has 2 Beyonce concert tickets! Ah! Meant to be talaga!
My eyes almost popped out when I saw that the ticket was for SVIP! Aaaah! Grabe na ang swerte na to!
Incidentally, my shoot for KNN is at Bonifacio High Street. Lalo tuloy akong kinabahan at na-excite upon seeing the concert area. As in handang handa na lahat, ang daming guards, may mga floating Globe balloons, at unti unting napupuno ang mga parking areas.

After the shoot, I met up with my cousin at Market Market to have a short dinner. Then we headed to the SVIP entrance! We're so underdressed pero kebs na! Graba lang naman ang sahig dun!
When we got to the area, we were so pleasantly surprised to be seated on the eighth row sa gitna. Here's our view... just before the people came in...
At SVIP kung SVIP na nga! Ang daming artista!
Ito pa ang iba naming nakita:
Martin Nievera (same row), Francine Prieto, Juliana Palermo, Toni Gonzaga and Direk Paul, Matteo (the race car driver), Pops Fernandez, Cesar and Sunshine Montano, Rachelle Ann Go with Jed Madela, Raymond and Ruffa Guttierez, Carmi Martin, Pheomela Barranda, Janno Gibbs and Bing Loyzaga with family, Carlo Aquino, Maja Salvador, Butch Francisco (ngek!), JM Rodriguez, Tessa Prieto Valdez, Tim Yap, Icy Mendoza, and even Butch Pichay! Siguro marami pang iba sa kabilang side.
After the front act na dineadma na mga tao, nagsara ang black velvet na curtain. After a few moments, itong si Beyonce, bigla na lang lumabas! Silver dress na suot nya sa ads, hinahangin-hangin ang buhok, walking slowly to the center of the stage, eyes blazing, mukhang apparition! WAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

She opened with Crazy In Love no less!
Nakakabaliw kasi I used to watch the Youtube video of Beyonce falling down the stairs all the time. Pati yung tumaas yung damit nya showing her boobs... tapos ayun na, yun mismo ang pinerform nya, yun mismo ang damit! As in nakakabaliw!
Sila yung mga nagpe-play in between costume changes. Ang gaganda ng get-up nila at super talented. Kudos to Beyonce and the Suga Mama band!

Pinaka naenjoy ko is the sequence with the Destiny's Child songs. Kasi I'm a Destiny's Child fan more than a Beyonce fan! Grabe na! Kinanta nya yung "Say My Name" sabi nya "Say Beyonce!" Sagot kami: BEYONCE!!! She sang Independent Women, Survivor, Jumpin' Jumpin', Bills, Soldier, etc!
But my ultimate faves are Listen and Irreplaceable. I almost cried when she sang Listen! Grabe. She did some licks na iba pa sa original song na super super ganda!
And when the intro of Irreplaceable came in everybody was on their toes. She made the crowd sing the whole first part and chorus only with the guitar... then she sang the whole thing again. Shucks! It was so nice! Nakakaiyak! Kinanta nya lang sa dulo, "Manila, you're irreplaceable!" That was the finale song, and kahit anong chant ng mga tao ng more at Beyonce, ay hindi na sya lumabas. Huhu.

Hay... hinihingal ako sa post na 'to!
I'll try to upload nicer photos later! More kwento rin siguro later.
Hay... Beyonce!

To Multiply... or Not To Multiply
Bakit parang mas in na ngayon ang Multiply?
Super dami ko nang natatangap na invites. Out na ba ako?
Ano ba? Pa-advice nga po!

Chiang Rai, Thailand
Just came back from Chiang Rai, Thailand for the IOM 2007 Opening Workshop.
I met so many people who are experts in their craft, and are so generous with their wealth of knowledge! I assisted in workshops by Howie Severino, Dominic Sansoni and Jeremiah Foo. Imagine, getting paid to sit in lectures like these!
Filipino documentary-maker Howie Severino gave a lecture on media ethics and covering international stories. Interestingly, Howie's parents met in Lao while they were doing diplomatic work. And when Howie was growing up, his parent's would speak in Lao whenever they don't want him to understand. So, Howie could understand some of the words from the Lao fellows.
We also met Dominic Sansoni from Sri Lanka. He's a photographer whose photos have been covers of TIME Magazine and the like. He's traveled the world and has magnificent photos that will leave you wide-eyed! Being a neophyte photographer, he allowed me to copy a DVD of vignettes about esteemed photographers discussing their contact prints. He also was appluaded my choice of camera with my Nikon D40 and made some changes in the settings for me. Lessons, free of charge!
Another interesting person I met during the workshop is Jeremiah Foo. He's a Malaysian who pioneered web and podcasting in Asia. Since Malaysia does not have absolute freedom of speech, he has extensively used new media to broadcast his work. I was so thrilled with his lecture and the amazing gadgets he brings around. Imagine, he has an HD video camera the size of what we use in KNN!
Actually, I've met so many more great minds. People who are committed to causes and have made it their life's work to uphold advocacies. The kind of people who can speak more than 3 languages fluently, and hold gravity in their words. I wish to be like them someday.

Now, for some photos...I also joined a field trip to the Akha Village. A close-counterpart of the Ifugaos. They also live near the mountains but have experienced being displaced due to land conflict. They are fighting to keep their heritage alive.
It's been a year since I've been working on this project, and finally I get to see the infamous Mekong River that connects all 6 countries of the rightfully named Mekong Region. I also felt its power to connect all the countries when we went to the Golden Triangle, an area where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burma meet.
So, just by crossing the river, we were able to go to Laos. We stayed their for an hour and crossed the river again to go back to Thailand.

Ben's 23rd Bday
Celebrated the night at Moomba (Roces Avenue). The ambiance and architecture was superb , but the food was a major so-so. At least we can proudly say that we have already tried ostrich meat!
The band also granted my request, and played "The Last Time" by Eric Benet.
We couldn't give Ben his 1 bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequila, so he had to settle for Cuervo filled chocolate instead. Not bad, actually. Happy birthday Ben!

Some random photos...

Beach! with IOM 2007 Fellows
After two weeks of lectures and field production, we took the Mekong fellows to the beach. We went to La Luz Beach Resort in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas. This is an especially precious experience for them, since living in a landlocked country, many have not yet even seen, let alone swam in the sea.
The beach was not very comfortable, though. There were many sharp boulders and rocks. The sand was not fine, and hurts it when you walk. We also played volleyball, but couldn't make the most of it because the sand was blistering hot and rough. However, the beautiful and colorful fish swimming near the shore more than made up for this. You don't need to go very far from the shore to see schools of fishes feeding from corals. Inexperienced swimmers won't have a hard time too, because large boulders can serve as anchors and rest areas.

Towards the end of the day, most of our group had a massages in the cabanas by the beach. And just before leaving, I led a relaxing stretching session. There's really nothing compared to the fresh sea air, and the sound of waves crashing on the rocks in the distance. Whew!
We capped the night with a bulalo dinner at Rose and Grace's restaurant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Yummy!
By the end of the day, our backs were burned, our feet were slashed in different small places, tired from the long trip back to the city, but our hearts are filled with sweet memories of the sea. Till next year!

Birthday Celebrations
24th!
This is mine! All American Burger! Super juicy!

Ewan ko ba kung bakit namin ginawa 'to!
Mymies at Spiral Buffet, Sofitel
Sunday night, Momon and I conquered the Spiral Buffet of Sofitel Philippine Plaza. It was a 4-hour culinary experience, that we will not soon forget!

Kebs! I'm still young, and I'm loving every minute of being 24. Especially the multiple celebrations.
KNN and PMFI with Susie's Cuisine
My birthday was a Wednesday, a perfect fit for KNN Manila reporters. Ang daming tao sa office, ang saya. Ate Tin, Ate Grace--na saktong may viewing. Angelo, Joseph, Nicai and Ate Astrid, Tita Nancy, Ate Lorna and Ate Josie. Ate Yas had to leave early, though.
We ate the extraordinary palabok of Susie's Cuisine! As in the Pampango original. We also had Tibok-tibok, their version of Majablanca; and Danz' recommended kakanin--Moche. As in super busog!

Padua Family at Cajun
We had dinner at Cajun restaurant along Retiro. It's the restaurant of the Chef Tony (of Popcorn fame). I first ate in this resto during one of my stints in HTVS. I was craving for their Creole Chicken pasta, that's why we went there. Muntik pa kaming maligaw. Ang dilim kasi e.
We also bought loads of Chef Tony's Popcorn! How can you resist?! I had one small tumbler of White Chocolate and Walnut popcorn to myself.
Sorry , wala akong pictures. Hehehe. ON TO MORE CELEBRATIONS!

Compassion 5 at Butter Diner
I chose Butter Diner in Cubao for my birthday dinner with the Compassion 5. It's similar to the 50's Diner in Baguio which Momon and I really enjoyed. I'm not so sure what to say about the food here. It's not really extraordinary, but it's worth a try.

After dinner, we proceeded to Pier One for drinks. Aside from the usual drinks we have, we each got 1 tequila shot. Rhea ordered Shirley Temple, ang dumating samin, tempura... go figure.
Mymies at Spiral Buffet, Sofitel
Sunday night, Momon and I conquered the Spiral Buffet of Sofitel Philippine Plaza. It was a 4-hour culinary experience, that we will not soon forget!
We enjoyed a buffet of Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Koren cuisines. I had the chance to try some things I normally just see on Lifestyle Network--smoked salmon, mango chutney, green tea pannacota, gratin, lamb, prosciutto and many more.
It's so hard to describe here what we ate-- even more, how much we ate! I took sips of hot tea each time we completed a cuisine to help me digest, tsaka para wag maumay. By the end of it all, we had to burp ourselves several times and take long deep breaths in between spoons of creme brulee.
Whew, what an eventful birthday week, not to mention a very fattening one! BURP!
